I have been in hospital twice since coming here to be with my husband. Once there was quite a wait. You see I had to have surgery both times and if you are not urgent you do wait. Oh well big deal. They also diagnosed me with type 1 diabetes as they always run a full blood workup for you. I had had type 1 diabetes for FIVE years in the US, been sick many times and the doctors ALWAYS missed it as it is not a standard test.
The wards are interesting I must say but again..oh well..I found the staff and nurses kind, caring, thorough and it to be a very positive experience. The second time I was in and out in a day. they also arrange all of your follow ups for you etc...is it perfect? no! is it much better than whatever system we have in the US..hell yes. I am finding that life outside of America is alot beter in alot of ways and this is quite a nice place to be.

Yes, the children are entitled to many benefits over here, although our children do not qualify for most of them. It is good that the UK provides all these benefits, but there is a down-side. One, too many people abuse the benefits system. Two, it attracts too many immigrants for the sole purpose of getting benefits.

Sorry to hear about your daughters eye problems.

The NHS since its conception was a fantastic idea and led the world for free health care for all. It has never been free though taxes pay for it. This has however become white elephant for politians over the years who still claim it to be free but it is not.

It is still a brilliant concept, basically a Nationalised health service up until 10 years ago. More and more is becoming privatised. At least the children still get 'free' entitlement as you experienced.
